The Myth of the Lyme Disease Rash

The CDC reports 70% – 80% of Lyme disease patients develop the classic Lyme disease rash, however, other studies estimate the occurrence of the rash to be much lower, some as low as 27%. Lyme disease is highly prevalent in my area; almost my entire family has been treated.  Only one out of seven in my family developed the classic Lyme disease rash.  The myth of the Lyme disease rash causes extensive suffering.

The problem is Lyme disease mimics hundreds of other diseases.  Early symptoms are much like a cold or the flu:  fatigue, fever, chills, sweats, headaches, muscle pain, joint pain, neck pain, trouble sleeping.  Without the tell-tale bullseye rash, health care providers often fail to test for Lyme and many patients suffer for years before receiving diagnosis and treatment.  Untreated Lyme disease can severely damage the body and contribute to an early death.

If you live in or have visited an area with Lyme disease, and you’re loved one experiences unexplained symptoms, insist on a Western Blot Lyme test.
