Smoking/Vaping cannabis is not as strong and does not last as long as eating it. The effects of edibles last MUCH longer than inhalation. (Try these kief cookies.)
Keep in mind that oral consumption isn’t effective for everyone because of digestive and/or metabolic issues. For some people, edibles just don’t work. Others are unable to tolerate oral consumption because it has more intoxicating effects. Here’s a chart that explains more.

When smoking or vaporizing cannabis, heat converts THCA into THC. | When eating cannabis, the liver converts THC into 11-hydroxy-THC. |
THC is processed in the lungs and quickly delivered to the bran. | 11-hydroxy-THC takes longer to travel to the brain, but crosses the blood-brain barrier more easily causing a more intense high. |
As you can see in the above chart, eating cannabis lasts longer than smoking or vaporizing. When cannabis is eaten, the liver converts delta-9 THC into 11-hydroxy THC. 11-hydroxy THC crosses the blood brain barrier more readily that delta-9 THC.
Edibles are much stronger than smoking.
The cognitive side effects of THC consumed orally are more intense than when smoking or vaping. This is one of the reasons patients should start with a very low dose when starting edibles.
This means, USE CAUTION when consuming edibles. PLEASE start small and increase your dosage very slowly after waiting several hours.
My perfect oral microdose is 2 mg every few hours. That’s a tiny dose-most dispensaries sell edibles that are 5-10 mg each.

How long the effects last vary by individual. Not all medical marijuana strains make you feel high.
There are strains of cannabis that have little-to-no intoxicating properties. These are generally high CBD strains with low concentrations of THC.
High CBD, low-THC strains can be life-changing for many, however, CBD alone, is not always effective for every person or ever disorder. Some patients require higher doses of THC.
Additionally, each cultivar/strain can cause a different physiological reaction.

My preferred method is to microdose. I take very small doses regularly around the clock.
I prefer vaping but I also make cannabis oil to use when I’m unable to vape. Microdosing keeps my spasms under control with little noticeable effects. On an average day, I take 2 mg every two-four hours. And I take 4-6 ms before bed. On days that my pain levels are high, I take more.
The ideal dosage depends on the individual.

When you first become a marijuana patient, you might feel high often. But slowly your tolerance will build and you will be able to use your medication without serious side effects.
After using medical marijuana, I don’t walk around like a character from a stoner movie. People can’t tell when I’ve taken my medication.
I don’t get giddy or experience the euphoria that’s often associated with being high. Some strains make me feel slightly more lifted than others.
Sometimes severe spasms require a higher dose and in that case, then the psychoactive effects can be more pronounced. Those strains might make me feel sedated and sleepy.
Still, even with the side effects of medical marijuana, I function better than I did before MMJ. The side effects of Valium, opiates, and Lyrica were more challenging than the side-effects of medical marijuana.

If you accidentally consume too much cannabis, you might feel like you’re dying. The good news is no one has ever died from a cannabis overdose.
Still, consuming too much cannabis is an extremely unpleasant experience. It’s commonly called a “green out”.

Lemon Juice: Drinking lemon juice or chewing lemon rinds is also said to help relieve cannabis related anxiety. Lemons contain limonene, a terpene that been purported to help relieve cannabis-related anxiety.
